Mark Brewer, AM, CSC and Bar – Deputy President
Mark Brewer was appointed as Commissioner and Deputy President of the Repatriation Commission on 1 January 2025 for a period of 18 months.
“The Repatriation Commission and the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission are crucial and independent parts of the support system delivering on the nation’s commitment to veterans and families,” Mark says.
“The work we are doing on the Commissions will ensure veterans are supported with the right compensation and benefits policies now and into the future.”
Mark joined the Department of Veterans’ Affairs in August 2022 after more than 38 years of service in the Army.
During his time in the Army, he was appointed to a number of senior Defence staff appointments, including Chief of Staff Headquarters 1st Division, Director General South East Asia in International Policy Division, Director General Training – Army, Commandant Royal Military College Australia and Director General United States Force Posture Initiatives/Australia – Singapore Military Training Initiative. He also deployed on a wide range of operations in Lebanon, Indonesia, and Afghanistan.
He was awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross (CSC) in 2006, for his contribution to the introduction of the Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter and the Australian Light Armoured Vehicle. He was awarded a Bar to Conspicuous Service Cross (Bar) in 2011, for his leadership of Joint Task Force 629 in Padang, Indonesia. He became a Member of the Order of Australia (AM, Military Division) in 2018, for his leadership and innovation in training as Director General Training and Commandant Royal Military College Australia.
As the son of a veteran and as a veteran, Mark brings a deep understanding of the veteran and veteran family experience to the Deputy President role. He has a genuine care for people and a commitment to building stronger connections between the ex-service community and government.
