What's DVA
DVA is a department of the Australian Government. We provide support, funding and services for:
- veterans and their eligible dependants
- war widow(er)s
- Australian British Nuclear Test participants.
Who's a veteran
To DVA, a veteran is any person who has served more than one day or is serving in the Australian Defence Forces (ADF).
To find out if your patient may be eligible for DVA support and/or services, ask them if they have ever served in the defence forces.

The transition journey of a veteran and their family from the ADF to civilian life can be a challenging period. It’s important to provide prompt, responsive support to assist them in maintaining their wellbeing and to enable their access to healthcare and other entitlements.
