Sandakan Memorial Park is located on the site of the Second World War Sandakan prisoner of war camp. The service remembers not only the Australian and British soldiers held as Prisoners of War of the Japanese during the Second World War, but the courageous locals who worked, aided and died with them both in the camp and on the death marches to Ranau.

The 2025 Anzac Day Dawn Service will be open to the public and the details are as follows:

Date:Friday, 25 April 2025
Time:4.20 am: Site opens
5:10 am: Public must be seated
5:30 am: Commemorative Dawn Service commences

To assist in the planning and delivery of this service, all persons and Associations, Tour / Educational Groups attending the service are encouraged to complete the Attendance Registration Form and submit it to Overseas Projects Team email at Overseas.Memorials@dva.gov.au as provided in the links below.

Please note: Attendees wishing to present a private wreath or floral tribute at the Anzac Day Dawn Service, will have an opportunity to do so towards the end of the service. A complimentary floral tribute will be made available to attendees wishing to lay one, however, private wreaths will need to be purchased separately and brought with you to the service. There is no capacity to receive deliveries of or store private wreaths at Sandakan Memorial Park. If you intend presenting a private wreath or floral tribute, it is essential that you complete the ‘Registration Form for the presentation of a private wreath or floral tribute’, included as part of the registration package in the links below.
