DVA webinar and quick guides for general practices – now available.

Learn the key things you need to know about the Department of Veterans’ Affair’s (DVA) health arrangements, at a time that suits you, with our one hour webinar with the Australian Association of Practice Managers (AAPM); and have the key information at your fingertips when you need it, with DVA’s quick guides for General Practitioners (GPs).

In a recording of a live webinar held on 8 September 2022, DVA’s Deputy Chief Health Officer Dr Trish Batchelor, Senior Medical Officer, Dr Dan Corkery, and Senior Medical Officer, Dr Diem Pham, walk participants through the basics of DVA health arrangements to help practices support quality care for veterans and families and receive the right payments for their business; emphasising the importance of asking patients if they’ve served in the Australian Defence Force.

The three DVA representatives who also practice as GPs, centre the informative session around DVA’s new printable quick guides, which aim to make it easier for general practices to access the key information they need when presented with a veteran or a member of their family.

The DVA Basics Quick Guide reminds providers to ask your patient if they’ve served, which Veteran Cards to look out for and what they cover, as well as key DVA contacts for you and your veteran patient.

The DVA Claiming Quick Guide reminds general practices of the item numbers for different DVA programs and the associated tools and supports available for those programs.

The session also showcases DVA’s Compensation Quick Guides, which provide useful information on compensation claims, to make it easier for GPs, Psychiatrists, and other healthcare providers to understand the requirements when asked to provide information in relation to a claim.

We encourage you to print off DVA’s helpful Quick Guides and put them up in your practices.

If you missed the webinar, or would like a refresher, the recording is now available on the AAPM website under Webinar: DVA Health Arrangements. The recording is free for AAPM members and $100 for non-members. If you don’t have an account already, you will need to create one to access the webinar.
