Know a veteran or family member who may benefit from improving their stress management skills, while building connections with others with similar experiences?

Encourage them to enrol in one of DVA’s free online Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) forums.

Mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR) is an eight-week evidence-based program that offers intensive mindfulness training to assist people with stress, anxiety, depression and pain. MBSR uses a combination of mindfulness meditation, body awareness, yoga and exploration of patterns of behaviour, thinking, feeling and action.

Instead of following a script or acting out meticulously described steps, mindfulness is practiced in the manner that best suits the individual.

DVA’s free online MSBR forums are customised exclusively for veterans and family members. MBSR is a trauma-informed program led by military aware instructors.

The course is practical, inspiring and transformative for those wanting to reduce job, family or health-related stress, including serious conditions. It engages participants physically, emotionally and intellectually to cultivate resilience and a greater sense of ease and effectiveness in work and life.

Participants report:

  • Improved self-efficacy
  • Greater capacity to cope with short and long term stress
  • A lasting decrease in both physical and psychological symptoms
  • Increased ability to relax
  • More energy and enthusiasm for life

MBSR programs are free for veterans and their families.
