Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide hands down Final Report
The Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide has handed down its Final Report to the Governor-General this morning. It has since been tabled in the House of Representatives. You can access the report on the Royal Commission's website.
DVA will not be able to comment or act on the recommendations until the Government has considered the report and handed down its whole-of-Government response, which is likely to occur later this year.
Please be aware that many DVA clients will find this a challenging time. There will be extensive media coverage around the release of the Final Report, including themes relating to mental health and suicide. We would be grateful if you could remind any DVA clients who you think need support that it is available to them:
If you are in crisis and need to talk to someone, you can call Open Arms – Veterans & Families Counselling on 1800 011 046 – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
If you’d prefer to remain anonymous, Safe Zone Support can be contacted on 1800 142 072.
If a veteran or family member is in immediate danger call triple zero (000).
Other services are listed on the mental health support services page of the DVA website.
