The Australian Defence Veterans’ Covenant and the Veteran Recognition Program

The Veteran Recognition Program was established by DVA in 2019 to support the Australian Defence Veterans’ Covenant (the Covenant). The Program is ongoing.

The Covenant encourages the Australian community to recognise and acknowledge the unique nature of military service and military families. It is enshrined in the Australian Veterans’ Recognition (Putting Veterans and Their Families First) Act 2019.

Current and former members of the Permanent Forces and Reserves can apply for recognition through the Veteran Recognition Program using MyService.

  • Veterans who have served in the Permanent Forces of the Australian Defence Force and Reservists with eligible service may apply for the Covenant Oath, Lapel Pin and Veteran Card.
  • Reservists may apply for the Covenant Oath and Lapel Pin.
