Free business program sets veterans and their partners up for success
By Courtney Snowden, ADF spouse, Enterprise Programme alumna, for Prince’s Trust Australia
The Prince’s Trust Australia’s Enterprise Programme is helping veterans and their spouses turn their dreams of small business ownership into reality.
The Enterprise Programme aims to give ex-serving and transitioning Australian Defence Force members and their partners the backing to explore self-employment.
Chair of Prince’s Trust Australia, the Hon Julie Bishop says veterans and their families face complex challenges as the future of work changes rapidly. But she adds that the Enterprise Programme helps address those challenges for those looking to find success as entrepreneurs, small business owners, makers, franchisees, contractors, consultants or freelancers.
‘The Programme is free and gives veterans the confidence, networks and skills they need to set up a business,’ Ms Bishop said.
‘Our Programme is unique in two important ways. First, it supports veterans to develop the entrepreneurial and technical skills to start and grow a small business.
‘Second, it supports veterans’ partners, as their careers have often been impacted by life in the Defence Force.’
Delivered online, the Enterprise Programme helps participants explore and refine their business ideas, launch and grow their businesses and enhance the skills needed to thrive in the dynamic world of work.
It also provides an opportunity to network with like-minded people from the veteran community and connect with potential mentors.
The Enterprise Programme is an initiative of Prince’s Trust Australia, which is part of The Prince’s Trust Group, a global network of charities founded by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.
The next round of intake is scheduled for April and May. Visit princes-trust.org.au or email events [at] princes-trust.org.au for more information.
The Prince’s Trust Australian Enterprise Programme received grant funding from the Australian Government to support veteran-owned businesses.
