Heart Health Program for Veterans
In these challenging times of coronavirus, maintaining your general health and fitness remains vital. Building up your resistance and immunity are important in dealing with health issues and viruses. Social distancing rules are now in place and people now find themselves with more time to focus their attention onto self-care.
The DVA Heart Health Program is a great way to start putting your health first. The Heart Health Program is a 52-week program that is free for eligible veterans, and aims to help increase your physical health and wellbeing through exercise, nutrition and lifestyle management support.
Due to coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions, the program is currently only available from your home with coaches providing healthy lifestyle education online by telephone or email. Where you have a need, the coaches can also provide you with a piece of exercise equipment to help you work out from home and continue healthy activities.
The online version of the program delivers tailored physical activity resources, health education modules, and phone or email support from a health coach. The program covers a range of topics including:
- setting healthy goals
- nutrition and diet advice
- lowering alcohol consumption
- developing better sleep patterns
- stress management
- diabetes
- taking care of your body
- managing your weight
- maintaining a healthy heart
