RSL Sub-Branch donates kayaks to Naval Cadets
A message from the North Beach RSL, Western Australia
North Beach RSL Sub Branch recently donated 10 kayaks to TS Marmion Naval Cadets, which are based at Hillarys Marina, as part of its program of fostering stronger community relationships with service-related organisations. The kayaks will assist the Naval Cadets gain a broader range of water related skills whilst at the same time, having fun.
As for the RSL Sub-Branch, members have been paddling the kayaks both within and around the Marina, as well other locations close to Perth for a number of years as part of its commitment to improving members’ health and to build camaraderie.
President of the Sub-Branch, John Rolfe, said, ‘Our group kayak twice weekly in and around the Marina, and as part of that, also collect debris such as plastics, as an appreciation for having such a facility and to contribute to keeping the waterways clean. We were fortunate to receive a grant to purchase new kayaks, so this gave us the opportunity to pass on those that were surplus to requirements to TS Marmion .
‘Our Sub-Branch has had a long relationship with TS Marmion , and the donation was voted by our members as something that would benefit that organisation and further develop our relationship with them. It would also assist the Naval Cadets understand the values of the RSL.
Lieutenant Paul Clinton and Sub Lieutenant Kate Hartland received the kayaks on behalf of TS Marmion. Lieutenant Clinton acknowledged the donation by saying that ‘We have been borrowing the kayaks from the North Beach RSL Sub-Branch over the years, and the donation has given us an additional resources for which we are thankful.’
A win–win for both the RSL and the Naval Cadets.
