SA Legacy officially opens new premises
The Legacy Club of South Australia & Broken Hill has recently opened its new premises at the historic Torrens Parade Ground in Adelaide.
The premises are located in a central place that makes it easy for Legacy to host its many beneficiaries, legatees and guests. It also allows them to collaborate with many co-located organisation partners.
‘The opening of our new office will bring about a new dynamic for our Club,’ says SA President Rob Eley CSC.
‘Our footprint is around the same but we have designed the new office to maximise its functionality and allow for more online interaction and flexibility in set up,’ said CEO Kerryn Smith. ‘We are grateful for the support of the South Australian Government in enabling our club to establish its new home.’
DVA’s Deputy Commissioner for South Australia Janice Silby attended the opening.
‘The new space, in a central location, co-located with other supporting organisations allows Legacy to continue their valued work in a modern, contemporary setting,’ she said.
Also present was Veteran Family Advocate Commissioner Gwen Cherne and Rob Swanwick, Veteran Family Advisor and a former RAAF Warrant Officer.
‘For 100 years, Legacy has been fulfilling a promise that was made in the First World War, to look after the family of those who lost a loved one to war,’ said Commissioner Cherne.
‘Legacy has expanded to support partners and children of veterans who gave their lives or health serving our nation, including some 43,000 widows, children and dependants across Australia. They make such a positive impact on so many people’s lives.’
Legacy is a club that welcomes members of the community and trains many of them to become Legatees – volunteers who work directly with the families of deceased or incapacitated Defence personnel. Legatees are assisted by helpers and administration staff, and financed by the generosity of South Australians and the Broken Hill Community.
‘Membership of our club is easy for those who want to help,’ says Kerryn. ‘There is no time limit on the assistance we give; getting families on their feet is our lifetime task.’
Legacy South Australia had previously been located at 102 Franklin St, Adelaide for more than 30 years.
