Celebrating our veteran employment award-winners
The winners of this year’s Prime Minister’s Veterans’ Employment Awards across the award categories were announced online on 15 May 2020.
An Australian veteran-owned and operated consulting company has been honoured as the Outstanding Veterans’ Employer of the Year in the 2020 Prime Minister’s Veterans’ Employment Awards.
AeroPM, a professional consulting service and veteran employer, is an advocate for the successful transition of veterans into the civilian workforce. The company recognises the value of retaining veterans’ knowledge, passion and dedication to better serve the defence community.
Winners across ten award categories were announced on 15 May via social media. Prime Minister Scott Morrison surprised two of the winners with a video conference to congratulate and announce their win in person, followed by a public announcement on social media. A ceremony at Parliament House was cancelled due to COVID-19.
In a media release announcing the winners, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the personnel of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) embody the best of the nation.
‘The skills our ADF personnel hone during their service are ones that are also needed in every single workplace which is what the Veterans’ Employment Program recognises,’ the Prime Minister said.
‘We celebrate those businesses who are supporting veterans and their families to fulfil their potential as employees and entrepreneurs.’
The annual awards acknowledge organisations of all types and sizes that employ and support veterans and the spouses of current serving ADF members.
Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Minister for Defence Personnel Darren Chester said the Government is committed to putting veterans and their families first, which includes helping former service men and women successfully transition into civilian life and to find meaningful employment.
‘Each year, around 5,500 military personnel transition from service in the ADF — service that is overwhelmingly positive and good for the individual, good for the community and in the national interest,’ Mr Chester said.
The award-winners are role models for employers considering the benefits of employing veterans and transitioning ADF personnel. The skills and values of the winners are high on both employer and employee wish lists: loyalty, respect, diligence, teamwork, professionalism and a duty of care.
In addition to celebrating employer excellence, the Awards also recognise the significant accomplishments of veterans in the workplace and those who have built on their ADF experience to start or grow a successful business.
Mr Chester congratulated all of the finalists and winners of the 2020 Prime Minister’s Veterans’ Employment Awards, and thanked all the Australian private and public sector organisations leading the way and proving that employing a veteran is good for business.
