A message from The University of Queensland

The University of Queensland is conducting a ground-breaking research project led by US Army veteran Dr Richard O’Quinn called ‘Veterans and the better management of disclosure: a study to understand disclosure of PTSD and other medical conditions in the workplace.’

This study aims to shed light on the critical issue of disclosing medical conditions in the workplace with a special focus on military veterans.

Veterans diagnosed with PTSD often face challenges revealing the condition to employers. Some may fear negative perceptions or uncertainty about what to disclose.

How can veterans, their employers and colleagues support one another in an environment that promotes disclosure of health conditions in the workplace?

This study could save lives by improving awareness and support. We invite Defence veterans and employers to take part in interviews, to share your experiences and insights helping us pave the way for a brighter, more supportive future.

We are interested in hearing from veterans, their employers and co-workers, to better understand and improve disclosure processes and outcomes. Together, we can supports veterans’ wellbeing and create more inclusive workplaces.

The research is being conducted by The University of Queensland and is funded in collaboration with East Coast Apprenticeships, both located in Brisbane, Australia. East Coasts’ interest in the study has been motivated by information disclosed through 500 veteran candidate interviews held over the duration of the Defence Trade Program.
