The Government Payments Program and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs
DVA is working with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) to ensure that all service providers who receive payments from us are meeting their tax and superannuation obligations, so there is a level playing field for providers in our programs. We are doing this through the cross-agency Government Payments Program (GPP), which delivers greater integrity and fairness across a range of Commonwealth programs providing services to the community.
We know most service providers do the right thing, but there are a few who exploit the system by:
- Unlawfully claiming payments they aren’t entitled to, or
- Receiving payments while not complying with tax and super obligations.
Under the GPP, we are sharing data with the ATO about the service providers receiving payments from DVA. This data will enable the ATO to identify and engage with service providers not meeting their tax and super obligations.
If you are not sure whether you have met your tax and super obligations, or need help with doing so, you can contact the ATO on 13 11 42 from 8:00am-6:00pm, Monday-Friday.
The ATO has published the GPP data-matching program protocol, which outlines how data will be collected and used by the ATO.
