New Independent Medical Examination provider arrangements for veterans’ compensation claims

Following a Request for Tender the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) has entered into an arrangement with MedHealth to be the sole provider of independent medical examinations (IMEs) to support assessments of veterans’ compensation claims.

Under current practices DVA commissions IMEs by non-treating doctors on an ‘as needed’ basis when medical evidence isn’t available from existing DVA held files, Defence service records, or treating practitioners. DVA will continue this practice under its arrangement with MedHealth.

DVA will no longer commission IMEs by providers other than MedHealth. Provisions will be put in place for DVA clients already undertaking an IME by another provider to ensure continuity of service for those clients.

Any queries regarding DVA’s changed arrangements for sourcing IMEs can be emailed to MIGS.CONTRACT [at] dva.gov.au (MIGS[dot]CONTRACT[at]dva[dot]gov[dot]au).
