Kate Pope began a five-year term as Deputy President of the Repatriation Commission on 6 August 2020 and is a member of the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission.

“The Repatriation Commission and the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission have an important responsibility to make sure the promises made a century ago are delivered, and that veteran care is protected and improved,” Kate says.
“The work we are doing on the Repatriation Commission is helping to ensure we have the best possible policies in place to support Australia’s veteran community, now, and, into the future.”

Kate joined DVA in 2016 to lead the Transformation and Organisation Performance Division and currently manages the Strategic Policy and Planning Group.

Kate is a career public servant with more than 30 years’ experience. She spent most of her public service career in the Department of Immigration, serving overseas in Indonesia, Vietnam and Poland and holding senior appointments in the areas of citizenship, settlement and multicultural affairs, children’s policy, and community detention (for which she received the Public Service Medal in 2012).

Kate has an honours degree in Asian Studies from the Australian National University and a Master of International Development Policy from Duke University in the United States.
