On 28 September, the Naval Association of Australia Queensland Section held their State Council Meeting at the Queensland Maritime Museum. During the meeting, delegates were given a presentation on the financial implications of aged care, by Shane Bourke from DVA.
Shane specialises in aged care within the department’s Income Support area. He was appointed as the DVA/DHS (Department of Human Services) Liaison Officer Aged Care in early 2015 to provide solutions for veterans and their families having issues with the aged-care system.
Among the advice Shane provided was: always get expert financial advice before entering aged care, and plan for residential aged care five years before you enter it.
The presentation was part of the State Council’s program called ‘Who will care for me?’. The Association is working with DVA for training on MyService, so they can help members who need assistance with the online platform.
More information is available on our aged care pages as well as the MyAgedCare website (www.myagedcare.gov.au).
Shane is based in DVA’s Brisbane office and is available to give presentations in the area. To arrange a presentation, please contact Amanda Green, a/g Executive Officer Deputy Commissioner Queensland, on amanda.green [at] dva.gov.au (amanda[dot]green[at]dva[dot]gov[dot]au).
