ESO News: StoryRight and Soldier On launch partnership

StoryRight launched its partnership with Soldier On Australia at their joint Pathways Networking Event in Adelaide on 3 October.

The Soldier On Pathways Networking events allow veterans and their families to connect with prospective employers who recognise and support the skills and attributes of ex-service personnel.

The event was an outstanding success with more than 100 attendees and pledge companies ranging from small to medium enterprises to major defence contractors including Naval Group Australia, BAE Systems and Boeing.

One attendee, who wishes not to be named, thought the night was impressive and was a huge benefit for South Australian veterans.

‘I was impressed with the number of organisations who attended,’ they said. ‘It was a great night that provided a lot of information and opportunities for veterans in South Australia.’

StoryRight is an Adelaide-based not-for-profit organisation that equips veterans with the tools to transition. The organisation offers one-day communications workshops that teach serving and ex-serving members of the Australian Defence Force how to translate their military skills and experiences into language civilian employers will understand.

Collaborating with Soldier On was a logical step as StoryRight fits within their Health and Wellbeing, Employment, Learning and Participation (HELP) framework to foster and create meaningful connections between veterans and employers.

Recently, DVA has awarded grant funds to StoryRight’s auspicing partner Friends of the Veterans’ Association to assist with the implementation of a new program, MindRight.

The MindRight workshops, developed by Dr Paula Dabovich and the StoryRight team, are designed to assist veterans in successfully shifting their mindset from a military context – the first step in a successful transition from service.

MindRight workshops will begin in 2020. They will supplement the StoryRight program, which is rolling out nationally.

For more information or to book a workshop, visit the StoryRight website or find them on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
