Check with DVA if you are unsure a medicine is subsidised

If you want to prescribe a clinically appropriate medicine that is not included on the Repatriation Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (RPBS) Schedule of Items, you can speak to a member of the VAPAC team 24 hours a day, seven days a week, about prior approval.

Medication not listed on the RPBS or PBS

There can be a misconception that DVA will not subsidise an item if it is not listed. However, DVA recommends you call VAPAC where you will be able to get prompt advice from qualified staff on whether or not the item will be subsidised.

RPBS supports safe and effective care for DVA clients

The RPBS ensures DVA clients have access to an appropriate range of safe and effective quality pharmaceuticals and wound care items.

Eligible DVA clients may receive:

  • Items listed for supply in the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
  • Items listed under the RPBS, including wound care products.
  • Items not listed on either the PBS or RPBS Schedules, if clinically justified.
