Seeking Medical Specialists and Medical Scientists to contribute to the veterans’ support system

The Specialist Medical Review Council (SMRC) is seeking Medical Specialists and Medical Scientists of all disciplines to be appointed as councillors. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your knowledge and contribute to a quality system of compensation for veterans.

In particular, the SMRC is seeking:

  • Epidemiologists
  • Psychiatrists or Psychologists
  • Endocrinologists
  • Immunologists

with a focus on thyroid disease for a current review of Hashimoto Thyroiditis.

Expressions of interest are also welcome from other medical specialists and medical scientists of all fields for future reviews.

Successful candidates may also, in the near future, be considered for the role of Convener of the SMRC.

Minimum requirements:

  • Australian Citizen or dual Citizen
  • 10 years’ experience in a relevant specialty as a registered medical practitioner or medical scientist; and 
  • for epidemiologists, at least 5 years’ experience in the field of epidemiology.

The SMRC is a statutory body under the Veterans’ Entitlements Act 1986.  It works according to the availability of specialists to review decisions of the Repatriation Medical Authority in relation to the Statements of Principles.
