Your invitation to attend our Psychiatric Assistance Dog industry briefing
Many Veterans, as a consequence of their service can grapple with challenges associated Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Eligible veterans who have been clinically diagnosed with PTSD, have the opportunity to participate in DVA’s Psychiatric Assistance Dog (PAD) Program.
The PAD program helps veterans through the support of a trained psychiatric assistance dog, to alleviate specific PTSD symptoms (in conjunction with other therapy). The PAD program supports veterans to lead safer and higher-quality lives.
The PAD Program has grown exponentially with over 200 veterans who have graduated from the PAD Program and DVA continues to experience an increase in the number of requests for services from psychiatric assistance dogs.
As such, we are excited to announce a tender opportunity for psychiatric assistance dog providers to be a part of this life changing program who are able to provide the following services:
- Assessing the veteran for the supply of a psychiatric assistance dog.
- Procuring and training both the psychiatric assistance dog and the veteran.
- Conducting evaluations to ensure optimal matches between dogs and veterans.
- Administering the annual Public Access Test for the veteran/PAD team.
- Offering continuous support and training to maintain accreditation for the veteran/PAD team.
- Ensuring the health and well-being of the dogs throughout their working life.
