How to use your browser to resize text

Microsoft Edge

  1. Select the three dots at the top right of the window and choose ‘Settings’. 
  2. Choose ‘Appearance’ from the menu and scroll to the bottom of the page to view ‘Fonts’. 
  3. Select a font size from the drop down menu that suits your needs. 
  4. To customize to a particular font size, choose ‘Customize fonts’ and move the horizontal bar to select the desired size.

Firefox

  1. Chose the menu button and select ‘Settings’.
  2. In the ‘General panel’ choose ‘Language and Appearance’.
  3. Under ‘Fonts’ use the drop down menu to select the font size that suits your needs.

Opera

  1. Chose the menu button and select ‘Settings’.
  2. Scroll to the ‘Appearance’ section and click the drop-down menu for the ‘Font size’.
  3. Select the font size that suits your needs and set as the default font size.

Safari on macOS

  1. Press ‘Option-Command-plus sign (+) to increase the font size.
  2. Press ‘Option-Command-minus (-) to decrease the font size.
  3. If you clear your web history websites will go back to their default font size.

How to use your keyboard to resize text

This applies to the following web browsers:

  • Microsoft Edge,

  • Firefox,

  • Opera,

  • Safari (Windows operating system).

Hold down the 'Ctrl' key and use the '+' key to enlarge text. Keep using the '+' key until the text is the right size for you.

To return text size to 'normal', use 'Ctrl 0' (zero). To make text size smaller, use 'Ctrl' and '-' (minus).

If you have a wheel on your mouse, hold down the 'Ctrl' key and roll the wheel forward to increase text size, or back to make it smaller.

You can also use the 'Zoom' slider if your keyboard has one.

Safari on macOS

Hold down the 'Cmd' (i.e. Apple) key and use the '+' key to enlarge text, or the '-' (minus) key to make text smaller. Use the 'Cmd' (Apple) key and '0' (zero) to return text to normal size.

NOTE: Using these keyboard methods might affect the size of link areas on the page but the links will still work.
