Government tackling veteran homelessness
Applications are now open for eligible organisations to apply for a share in $30 million in grant funding to build more crisis and transitional housing and provide specialist services for veterans and families who are experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness.
Veteran-aware registered Community Housing Providers and ex-service organisations are eligible to apply for funding.
The $30 million in funding comprises two related streams:
- $24 million in capital works funding for projects to expand the availability of crisis and transitional housing for veterans and their families.
- $6 million to fund organisations to deliver coordinated access to specialist services that address the risk factors for veteran homelessness.
This investment will help to provide veterans and their families experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness a pathway to access safe and secure temporary accommodation. It will also enable access to coordinated supports to improve their health and wellbeing outcomes and transition into long-term housing.
Partnerships are encouraged between veteran-aware registered community housing providers, ex-service organisations, specialist service providers, and other organisations to leverage available expertise, increase innovation and maximise access to additional resources.
DVA will hold information sessions on the Veterans’ Acute Housing Program grant opportunity.
