Remembrance Day 2021
Services were held across Australia yesterday to honour the fallen on Remembrance Day.
Remembrance Day, once known as Armistice Day, is one of our most important commemorative dates. On 11 November 1918, the guns on the Western Front fell silent, and the armistice with Germany to end the fighting on land, in the air and at sea was signed.
Services yesterday ranged from local community-based commemorations to state services such as those held at the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne, Anzac Square in Brisbane and Kings Park State War Memorial in Perth (pictured).
In Canberra at the Australian War Memorial almost 500 people gathered in the Captain Reg Saunders Courtyard for the national service, attended by the Governor-General His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC and the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Defence Personnel, Andrew Gee.
