History

This memorial was erected by Mr R.J McDonald, the son of a plantation owner who lived in this area with his family during the Second World War. In 1942, McDonald's Corner marked the terminus of the road for motor vehicle traffic from Port Moresby. It was here, on the 12th of July 1942, that members of B Coy, 39th Infantry Battalion disembarked from their vehicles and advanced along the Kokoda track to engage the enemy.
