Landridge and Lemin Memorial

Description

Enclosed by a fence, the memorial is a large rock with inscription plaque. On either side are the wheel struts of the Lancaster bomber with the names of Landrige and Lemin inscribed on them.

History

On 2 November 1944 a crew of seven on board a Lancaster bomber had just commenced their return journey after an operation to Dusseldorf when they were attacked by an enemy aircraft. All of the crew members bailed out, however, only five survived. The pilot, Flying Officer Leslie Landridge and Rear Gunner, Flight Sergeant William John Lemin died, as they were too low for their parachutes to open properly. Both men are buried in Hotton War Cemetery.

The village of La Reid is approximately 7 kms west of the town of Spa. From Spa take the N62 then turn left onto the N697.
