What is the Defence Service Homes Insurance Scheme?

The Defence Service Homes Insurance Scheme (commonly referred to as DSH Insurance) provides home building insurance to all current and former members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) with at least one day of service regardless of their type of service.

Who is eligible for the Defence Service Home Insurance Scheme?

Eligibility criteria applies to DSH Insurance’s home building insurance.

If you have served in the ADF or you are the widow/widower of someone who has, you are eligible to access home building insurance underwritten by DSH Insurance.

What do we offer?

DSH Insurance offers building insurance coverage with:

  • flood, fusion and accidental damage cover as standard 
  • no excess other than for earthquakes and some accidental damage claims
  • flexible payment options, and
  • economical premiums.

If you have a claim

Contact DSH Insurance on 1300 552 662 or use the online form

  • Do:
    • take all reasonable precautions to prevent further loss, damage or liability
    • notify the police immediately if any of your property is lost, stolen or vandalised
    • contact DSH Insurance as soon as possible for advice on the process and the next steps to take (we may ask you to complete a claim form)
    • give the information DSH Insurance asks for to help your claim
    • have proof of ownership if your claim involves possessions
    • provide any communication from a third party or their representative if they are making a claim against you or any legal documents that relate to the incident.
  • Do not:
    • admit fault
    • offer to pay for anything
    • commence repairs before contacting DSH Insurance and getting approval, except for emergency repairs (refer to your policy in relation to emergency repairs) 
    • delay in contacting DSH Insurance to advise of claim.
