Additional Disability Compensation Payment for specific disabilities
This page briefly explains the additional Disability Compensation Payment payable in respect of specific disabilities. Section 27 of the Veterans’ Entitlements Act 1986 (VEA) provides amounts of compensation for veterans who have certain kinds of war-caused incapacity, generally amputations and/or blindness.

What are the disabilities for which the additional pension is paid?
Additional Disability Compensation Payment is paid to veterans who receive Disability Compensation Payment at less than the special rate and have one of the following disabilities accepted as service related:

| 11 | One leg amputated above the knee |
| 12 | One leg amputated below the knee |
| 13 | One arm amputated above the elbow |
| 14 | One arm amputated below the elbow |
| 15 | Blinded in one eye |
For determining eligibility for these additional amounts:
- amputation of an arm below the elbow is deemed to be amputation above the elbow if the elbow action is lost;
- amputation of a leg below the knee is deemed to be amputation above the knee if the knee action is lost;
- amputation of a foot is treated as amputation of a leg below the knee;
- amputation of a hand is treated as amputation of an arm below the elbow; and
- a leg, foot, hand or arm that has been rendered permanently and wholly useless is treated as having been amputated.
How much additional Disability Compensation Payment is payable?
The additional Disability Compensation Payment for specific disabilities will increase the amount of a veteran’s Disability Compensation Payment by a set amount, depending on the nature of the disability. However, a person's total compensation will never exceed the special rate of Disability Compensation Payment.

Normally an additional Disability Compensation Payment is granted when the relevant amputation and/or blindness is accepted as being war or defence-caused. If you believe you are entitled to this additional pension and you are not already receiving it, you should contact your nearest DVA office.
