History
Operation Market Garden was an Allied Military operation fought between 17-25 September 1944, in Germany and the Netherlands in the Second World War.
The plaque is dedicated to the 10 Australian Air Crew killed during Operation Market Garden during the Second World War.
The Hartenstein Hotel contains the Airborne Museum commemorating the military activity conducted in the area during Operation “Market Garden” in September 1944. At different times during this battle, the building that houses the Museum was both a German and British HQ and a focal point of the British defence.
The museum is located close to the Airborne cemetery where hundreds of casualties from the secnd world war are buried. Every year there is a annual tribute where there is a parade held in front of the museum.

The plaque was placed on the 19 July 1998 by members of Number 23 City of Brisbane Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force.

The brass plaque is mounted on an internal wall in the cafe area of the Hartenstein Hotel which houses the Airborne Museum.
