Remediation and Sale of Contaminated Former Australian Red Cross Hall in Greenslopes (EPBC 2021/8997)
Location: corner of Newdegate Street & Headfort Street, Greenslopes, Qld
The Department of Veterans' Affairs, the Repatriation Commission, and the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission are seeking approval under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) to remediate the contaminated site of the former Australian Red Cross Hall at the corner of Newdegate and Headfort Streets, Greenslopes, and to sell the remediated site to the Brisbane City Council for the purpose of constructing a public park and Legacy House.
The remediation and sale was determined to be a controlled action under the EPBC Act with assessment by Preliminary Documentation. The controlling provision is “Protection of the environment from proposals involving the Commonwealth” (sections 26 and 28 of the EPBC Act).
Pursuant to section 95A(3) of the EPBC Act, the public is invited to comment on the Preliminary Documentation for the EPBC 2021-8997 Remediation and Sale of Contaminated Former Australian Red Cross Hall in Greenslopes for a period of 10 business days from Monday 7 November 2022 to Friday 18 November 2022.
