SMK SANZAC
Description
2 ha + school in Kota Kinabalu. Installed within the grounds of the school are four large columns with the dates 1941 - 1945, flags and a large brass plaque.
History
The memorial is "erected in memory of the close wartime ties of the people of Sabah with the Australian and New Zealand Servicemen whom they befriended, often at the risk of their own lives between 1942 and 1945".
Construction Information
Australian and New Zealand soldiers donated money from the Australian Army and NZ Army Association in 1969 to buy a block of land in Kota Kinabalu, North Borneo, Sabah, for a school for the local children. The College now has 1200 students. The primary and upper level school is known as the SANZAC College; Sabah, Australia, New Zealand Army Corps College. The SANZAC School flies the Australian and NZ flags and call the three original class rooms 'Anzac Heritage Rooms' .
